The Position
The Building Services and Infrastructure Portfolio brings together a highly experienced team of technical and professional experts to plan for, manage and upgrade the National Gallery’s facilities.
The portfolio has responsibility for:
- strategic asset management planning
- strategic projects
- capital works
- facility management
- security services and
- Exhibition support
And is committed to meeting the National Gallery’s targets against our:
- Environmental Sustainability Action Plan (for which the portfolio is the lead)
- Reconciliation Action Plan
- Disability Inclusion Action Plan
- Gender Equity Action Plan
The primary focus of the Senior Electrical Technician is to assist in the day-to-day operations of the Gallery, which include:
- Heating
- ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system
- non-display lighting and electrical services
- maintenance of plant and equipment and building fabric
- site maintenance
- plumbing
- cleaning and utilities, which also includes energy management.
The role requires an experienced and motivated licenced electrician who has proven ability to work in a national cultural institution in exhibition lighting and realising electrical and digital works of art. You collaborate across teams in the Building Services and Infrastructure, and Artistic Programs portfolios to provide technical electrical expertise in electrical, lighting and digital requirements to support the exhibition of works of art.
Reporting to the Manager Building Services, the position has responsibility for overseeing the technical lighting of exhibitions and works of art, the planning design and installation of art that have an electrical or digital component and providing subject matter electrical expertise to support the Conservation and Exhibitions program at the National Gallery of Australia.
In this role you will supervise the Lighting Technician, external electricians and other trade contractors to install/deinstall lighting and electrical infrastructure including digital and audio-visual equipment to support the exhibitions program.
You will work closely at times with the Director and the Project Director to ensure that lighting and electrical infrastructure best displays works of art and realised the creative intent.
