About
Constructed Images is a selection from the large collection of photographs produced as part of the Art Program for the new Parliament House.
The collection originated in late 1 983 when the Art Advisory Committee of the Parliament House Construction Authority invited 24 photographers to produce work related to the new Parliament House project, They were each contracted to produce a folio of work over two years.
The photographers proposed their own projects after visiting the building site. Most chose the site as subject matter. Others decided to examine sources of materials in places as diverse as a Queanbeyan concrete plant and a Tasmanian Huon Pine forest.
As a result the Authority has gained an important collection of photographs by established and emerging Australian artists. The work is both rich in the individual vision of the artists involved and of inestimable value to Australia as a document about the construction of one of our most important buildings.
It is hoped that a second series of commissions will allow photographers to work in the context of the completed Parliament House after the opening in mid 1988.
