Kids Mapping their World
28 Jul – 4 Nov 2001
About
Children from rural communities in NSW and from around the world have 'joined brushes' to express their feelings about their local environment through art.
Kids mapping their world comprises 26 works of art from overseas and 14 from recent 'Planting and Painting Across Australia' workshops, in which Kids Earth Fund joined forces with Landcare groups and the NSW Landcare Foundation, supported by Neway Transport and Pavilion design, to plant 2,000 trees and create 800 works of art.
Included will be a large community mural completed at the NSW Junior Surf Lifesaving Championships, 1-4 March 2001, at South Maroubra Beach.
The works of art in the international section of the exhibition have come from Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Fiji, Hungary, India, Italy, Malaysia, Myanmar, Poland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Uzbekistan. Children were asked to create images related to their local environment. Their works of art will make you smile and wonder and reflect but, more importantly, feel great hope and optimism for a better future for us all.
Kids Earth Fund, established in Japan in 1988, facilitates the collection works of art worldwide for the Kids mapping their world exhibitions. The Fund is a non-profit children's art and environment organisation. All proceeds are donated to projects that support 'children helping children' through the medium of art.
Special thanks to the Kids mapping their world sponsors: Sherman Galleries, Outsource Australia, Landcare, Global Colours, Artist Acrylics, Volvo Australia, Orix Australia, Red Cross, Regional Arts NSW and World Vision - Indigenous Program.
