Uncanny Valley: Dr. Wade Marynowsky on the history of automaton
Body Sculpture in Focus
Artist and academic, Dr Wade Marynowsky provides a talk focused on the history of robotic musicians and automatons.
In this talk you will learn about the development of robotics in art and why you might feel uneasy when robots appear too human like.
Dr. Wade Marynowsky is a lecturer in Interaction Design, in the School of Computer Science at the University of Technology, Sydney. He is also a creative robotics artist, specialising in the fields of Human-Robot Interaction (HCI) and Tangible, Embodied Interaction (TEI). His practice is characterised by large-scale robotic, sound, light, and interactive works that combine humour, and a host of unnerving thematics to absorbing affect. Exhibiting nationally and internationally since 1998 Marynowsky's work has been presented in major festivals, biennales, and survey exhibitions.
Jordan Wolfson: Body Sculpture is on display from 9 Dec – 28 Jul 2024. It is a free, ticketed exhibition.
