For the National Gallery of Australia it started with a recreation of SIDNEY NOLAN's ‘Ned Kelly’ on Twitter, but it has escalated to all kinds of hilarity and even a globally viral LEGO version of ‘Blue poles’. We’re sharing some of the highlights of the internet sensation, the #BetweenArtandQuarantine challenge.
The #BetweenArtandQuarantine challenge, or the #StayHomeChallenge, was sparked by the Instagram account @tussenkunstenquarantaine on 14 March, as cities and countries across the world started to go into lockdown due to COVID-19.
The challenge was adopted quickly by the Rijksmuseum, The Getty and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Now it has spread across the world, with gallery and museum collections worldwide falling to the phenomenon — including the national collection here in Canberra.
The challenge is simple:
- Pick your artwork
- Use three items in your home to recreate the work of art.
- Share on social media with the hashtags #BetweenArtandQuarantine #Tussenkunstenquarantine.
A relief from the current day-to-day grind of isolation, here are some of our favourite recreations that have been inspired by the Gallery’s collection:
