Inspired by Clarice Beckett's methods and materials, paint your own landscape in the National Gallery Sculpture Garden.
Clarice Beckett is featured in Know My Name: Making it Modern, a major exhibition that celebrates pioneering women artists who changed the course of modern art in Australia. Beckett was interested in seemingly ordinary subjects. She transformed them into images of intense observation and beauty. ‘My pictures, like music, should speak for themselves’, she said.
Art Steps is a series of creative making activities produced by the National Gallery of Australia with artists, curators and conservators for children. In this Art Steps, we worked with paintings conservator Jocelyn Evans to learn more about Beckett's approach.
Children must be accompanied by a parent/carer. This program is designed for children aged 8–12 years. Children under 8 years of age are welcome but will need assistance from an adult.
Please wear appropriate clothes for painting or bring a smock.
