Meet artist Robert Fielding, Western Arrernte, Yankunytjatjara peoples, for a yarning circle in the Lakeside Sculpture Garden beside his installation Holden On (2022).

For the 4th National Indigenous Art Triennial Ceremony Fielding has resurrected an abandoned car through paint and light installed in Lake Burley Griffith. Holden On (2022) is part of an ongoing series responding to mutaka katalypa (car wrecks) in the artist’s homelands between Mimili community, South Australia, and neighbouring Indulkana. Fielding paints mutaka katalypa with designs drawn from his rich cultural heritage and installs lights in the chassis, an act of ‘bringing back to life something long thought dead’.

Yarning circles are spaces for talking, sharing and building respectful relationships.
This outside event will move to the James Fairfax Theatre in wet weather.

Presented as part of the Ceremony Opening Weekend.
