This annual lecture series showcases the latest work of renowned Australian architects.

For more than two decades the National Gallery has proudly partnered with the Australian Institute of Architects (ACT Chapter) to present the Contemporary Australian Architects Speaker Series.

Online tickets can only be purchased before 12pm on day of event and the viewing link will be provided by 2pm on the day of the event.

Both online and onsite single tickets include access to the recording of the lecture for 1 week following the event.

Lecture 1: Qianyi Lim

Qianyi Lim is an award-winning registered architect with over fifteen years of experience working in practices across Australia, China and Denmark. She is interested in creating inclusive and equitable environments that are ecologically sustainable and culturally enriching for diverse communities.

Qianyi is a co-director of Sibling Architecture, she founded the studio in Melbourne before establishing its Sydney studio in 2017. Qianyi is also an architectural educator and critic, where she is an Associate Professor of Practice (Architecture) at the University of Sydney and a panel member on the NSW State Design Review Panel. In 2022, Qianyi was the recipient of the NSW Australian Institute of Architects Emerging Architect Prize.

Architects Ink is a multi-disciplinary studio who place emphasis on thoughtful, intelligent architecture and interiors. With an understanding that the design process is as important as the final product, the journey to each outcome is a collaborative effort focusing on the client’s needs and aspirations. Engaging in an explorative approach they interrogate site constraints along with unveiling opportunities to deliver responsive design solutions. Underpinned by strong conceptual ideas, a distinct identity is developed for every project.

Lecture 3: Kate Symons

Studio Ilk is a small, ambitious practice working on a broad range of project typologies, from small-scale residential alterations with heritage focus to large commercial and landscape driven works.

They pride themselves on producing truly unique responses to each project, site, and client, and as a team, share a common connection to place in Lutruwita/Tasmania.

Having spent her formative architectural training under the mentorship of local award winning, and well-respected architect, Maria Gigney, Kate is passionate about improving the path for women in the construction industry.

Studio Ilk focuses on producing highly resolved enduring solutions which perform for their occupants.

Lecture 4: Jefa Greenaway

Jefa Greenaway (Wailwan, Kamilaroi and D’harawal peoples) is a founding Director of Greenaway Architects, an Honorary Fellow of Design at Deakin University and an AILA National Cultural Ambassador.

He’s championed Indigenous led design thinking for 3 decades as a founding Director of Indigenous Architecture + Design Australia (IADA), and as co-author of the International Indigenous Design Charter, with a particular interest in design equity and Country-centred design.

His current projects include the $11B North East Link Project, the Marvel Stadium Upgrade and Stage II of the Koorie Heritage Trust.

He was a 2020 DIA ‘Hall of Fame’ inductee, signifying an outstanding contribution to Australian design and was recently named in the Qantas 100 Inspiring Australians.

Both online and onsite season tickets include access to the recording of each lecture for 1 week following the event.

ARCHITECTURE PRACTICE ONLINE SEASON TICKET:

In 2023 for the first time, we are offering architecture practices the opportunity to host private screenings for their staff. Included in the ticket is a live streaming link, as well as individual tickets for your staff to access the Contemporary Australian Architects Speaker Series 2023 online from their personal devices. The Architecture Practice Ticket also includes access to the recording of each lecture for 1 month following the event.

  • Small Architecture Practice (up to 5 staff) – $448
  • Medium Architecture Practice (up to 10 staff) – $896
  • Large Architecture Practice (more than 10 staff) – $1792

UNIVERSITY ONLINE SEASON TICKET:

In 2023 for the first time, we are offering Universities the opportunity to host screenings for their students and staff. Included in the ticket is a live streaming link, as well as individual tickets for your students and staff to access the Contemporary Australian Architects Speaker Series 2023 online from their personal devices. The University Online Season Ticket also includes access to the recording of each lecture for 1 month following the event.

Each event runs for approximately 70mins.

ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS, QLD: 6pm

SA, NT: 5.30pm

WA: 4pm

All lectures are live and commence at 6pm AEST. A video recording of the event will be provided the following day to both online and theatre ticket holders and will be available for 7 days.

Audio recordings will be available this time next year.

You will receive an email with viewing link before 2pm on the day of the lecture. This email will go to the email of the person who booked the tickets. Please call the National Gallery on +61 2 6240 6411 if you have not received your email.

If there is availability in the theatre, we are happy to refund your online season ticket and reissue you a season ticket for the theatre. Please call the National Gallery on +61 2 6240 6411 and our staff will be able to assist you.

We need to close tickets sales for online to ensure all ticket holders receive their online link via their booking email.

If we have availability in the theatre, yes you can buy a ticket at the door, but we encourage you to buy early to avoid disappointment.

FAQs for Architecture Practices & Universities


Season Architecture Practice Tickets are for Architecture Practices who would like to host a private screening of the speaker series for their staff and/or purchase an online season ticket for their staff.

We encourage practices who have purchased a season Architecture Practice Ticket to host a screening for your staff.

When you purchase a season Architecture Practice Ticket you will also receive a promo code to share with your students/staff so they can register for free individual tickets to access the Contemporary Australian Architects Speaker Series 2023 online from their personal devices.

The day after the event we will also provide you with access to the recording of each lecture for 1 month following the event.

The person who has booked the tickets for the program will be sent the screening link by 2pm on the day of each lecture. If you have not received your email by 2pm, please contact the National Gallery on +61 2 6240 6411 or information@nga.gov.au between 9am-5pm, daily. After 5pm on the day of the event, please call +61 2 6240 6474 or contact us via SLIDO using the code NGAsupport.

You will need an internet connected device and a good internet connection to stream the lecture series. The National Gallery will provide a streaming link to play the livestream by 2pm on the day of each lecture. If you do not receive the email, please call +61 2 6240 6474 or contact us via SLIDO using the code NGAsupport.

Practices who opt to host a screening are responsible for managing all technology and equipment required to stream the lecture series.

The Lectures start at 6pm AEST on the day of the event and the livestream feed will go live 10 minutes before the event. Universities and Architecture Practices are encouraged to start broadcasting the livestream at 5.50pm AEST so that any technical issues can be resolved before the start of the program.

The National Gallery will host a test livestream in advance of the first lecture. We contact the person who purchased the ticket for the program via email with the details for the test livestream. Architecture Practices are encouraged to attend this test screening so our staff can assist with troubleshooting any screening issues in advance of the lecture series.

The National Gallery is unable to assist with the technical operation of your screening during the lecture.

Yes, the National Gallery uses the Slido platform for all audience questions onsite and online.

The link to Slido and instructions for how to ask questions will be provided via email for each lecture with the streaming link.
