Imogen Dixon-Smith on Anni Albers
Imogen Dixon-Smith, Kenneth E. Tyler Curator, International Prints and Drawing, provides a talk focused on the life and work of German-American printmaker and textile artist, Anni Albers. In this talk Imogen delves into the two greatest influences on Albers’ artmaking, the Bauhaus school and pre-Columbian textiles. She illuminates how Albers redefined textile art for the modern age and applied this experimental spirit to her printmaking practice, working across a number of techniques to create prints that vibrate with joyous energy.
Anni and Josef Albers is on display in Gallery 15 from the 8 June – 22 September 2024.
