Simeran Maxwell on a Century of Quilts
Join Simeran Maxwell (Curator, Australian Art) for an art talk focused on the history of Australian quilting, an often over-looked artform.
Maxwell is the curator of A Century of Quilts, an exhibition featuring exceptional examples of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century quilts made using techniques including crazy quilting, hexagonal, log cabin and tumbling block piecing, embroidery and appliqué. Her talk will speak to the diverse range of quilts made by women artists in the national collection.
A Century of Quilts is on display at the National Gallery, 16 Mar – 25 Aug 2024.
Art Talks are a free weekly program. Hear from artists, curators and experts on the works in our collection and exhibition program. Art Talks in March focus on women artists in celebration of International Women’s Day.
