National Sculpture Garden Collective
DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
Welcome to the National Sculpture Garden Collective.
This month on the Collective, the Design Competition Jury, Professor Philip Goad, Nici Cumpston OAM and Teresa Moller revisit the competitive process of selecting the winning design team, and how it all started with a walk through the Sculpture Garden.
In our exclusive interviews, each Jury member draws on their diverse expertise to reflect on the unique requirements necessary to create a living gallery for the 21st century, and what drew them to CO-AP Holdings.
Architect and Chair of the Heritage Council of Victoria Philip Goad draws on the team’s respect and understanding of the Garden’s history and heritage, and enhancing what is already there.
Barkandji artist and curator Nici Cumpston OAM discusses the importance of embracing the Sculpture Garden as a chance to come through Country into the National Gallery, and the respectful approach by CO-AP Holdings to ensure First Nations engagement is embedded in the ongoing design development.
Renowned Chilean landscape architect Teresa Moller comments on the commitment to Australia’s biodiversity and how to create an internationally significant Sculpture Garden unlike any other.
We also reflect on the making of Ouroboros, and celebrate Lindy Lee's companion jewellery collection Xiaolong, created in partnership with Pallion.
We are at the beginning of the journey, and I look forward to sharing more next year as we further develop the future vision for the National Sculpture Garden.
